1858 Census of Ste Luce parish - Recensement de Ste-Luce

I've just posted a transcription of a document I found in the archives in La Pocatière: a census of Ste Luce parish undertaken by Father Henri Dionne in 1858. It is a head of household census, and I've included a name index.

Thanks to Dennis Prue who located the marriage record of Amable Ouellet and Esther Gardner! They were married at Chalmer's Presbyterian Church in Quebec city on 24 Jun 1835. Unfortuntetly, as is the case with most Protestant marriage records, the parents' names were not included. But at least this i...

Info on the 1820 US census missing originals

On the 1820 US Census of Madawaska page I explain why the census of Madawaska is missing from the microfilm copy, how and where I found a copy of the original, and my search for the missing original returns in the US Archives in Washington DC. I just returned from Boston, where I visited the US Arch...

Between 1850 and 1854 they had three children: Marie Marcelline, Michel, and Sophie. But they disappear from the recor...

move

I've recently discovered that Prospère and his family were living in Trois Pistoles, in Rimouski Co., at the time of the 1825 census. It is thus probable that they were living there at the time of their move to Frenchville in 1831. Still unknown: why they moved, why they ended up where they did.

Jim, I don't think that your Modeste/Maude is the daughter of Germain and Nathalie Cyr. Here's the page Germain, Nathalie, and their children (or at least some of them) on this website: http://www.upperstjohn.com/dionne/d8986.htm As you can see if you follow the links, Germain Levesque was the nephe...

Lori,

If you haven't already, be sure to check out the website "The French Connection", which has lots of information on the French people of Waterville, Maine.

You'll have to poke around a bit, but you'll see the links to information and documents on that community.

Good luck!

Photo of Sam and Ellen's daughter Ellen (Helen), m. Jalbert

Thanks to my cousin John Holmes, who sent me a copy of a photo of our great-great grandmother Helen or Ellen Russell, wife of Joseph Jalbert (m.1871). His mom and aunt found it in Connors. I've put it online, you can check out the photo, taken when she was probably about 20; and compare it to a phot...
