Excellent new history of the Acadians (2005)

Post by ChipG »

I'm in the middle of reading an excellent history of Acadia that just came out this year. It's a serious history, 600 pages with endnotes, but reads very well and is just fascinating. here's the info:

N.E.S. Griffiths, From Migrant to Acadian: A North American Border People, 1604-1755. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 2005.

It does a great job of putting Acadia and the Acadians in the broader context of the French and British empires of the time, of English settlements in North America, of the Acadians themselves. It's one of the best histories I've read. Go check it out! And if your library doesn't have it, ask them to order it!
