I just discovered this book on Amazon:

Forest Life and Forest Trees: comprising winter camp-life among the loggers, and wild-wood adventure. with Descriptions of lumbering operations on the various rivers of Maine and New Brunswick

Published in 1851, author John S. Springer

It is available for free for the Kindle or $9.99 as a paperback.

I just got it and have not read it, so I can't give any feedback on its contents yet.
