Prospère or Prisque?

In the baptismal records, the son of Michel Gagnon and Félicité Pelletier, baptized on 17 Sep 1790 in Ste-Anne de la Pocatière, Québec is listed as Prisque Gagnon.
Everything that I've seen, in terms of records, says that this Prisque is indeed Prospère. But I've seen no specific actual evidence that Prisque is Prospère.
Does anyone know of any such evidence? Also, why is he going by Prospère?
