She appeared on the 1860 US census in 1860 in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, as age 8, born in W. Canada (Canada-West, now called Ontario), living in the household of her parents Edward and Priscilla Gardhouse. ⁽¹³⁾ In the 1880 US census she was living in Rochelle, Illinois, and is listed as Amelia McConaughy, age 28, keeping house, born in Canada, father born in England, mother born in Canada, living in household with husband James, son P(?), and Margaret Oswood, servant.⁽¹⁴⁾

Amelia Ann Gardhouse died on 8 Apr 1945 in Rochelle, Illinois.

She was married to James Orlando McCONAUGHY (son of John McCurdy McCONAUGHY and Mary N. PORTER) on 16 Feb 1876.⁽¹²⁾

30. James Orlando McCONAUGHY was born on 7 Apr 1846 in Pittsburgh, Penn, in the large mansion of his maternal grandfather William Porter. ^(12)(15)

He appeared on the 1850 US census in Lawrenceville, Allegheny Cnty, Penn., as James R. McConaghy, 4 years of age, born in Pennsylvania, living with parents John and Mary. ⁽¹⁶⁾ Shortly thereafter, he moved with his parents to Illinois, living first in Lindenwood and then, from 1854 onwards, in Rochelle, Ogle Co., Illinois.

During the US Civil War, he served in the military from 1864 to 1865, in the 140th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company H.  He reached the rank of corporal.⁽¹²⁾.

He appeared on the 1880 US census in Rochelle, Illinois, as Ja. McConaughy, age 33, real estate agent, born in Pennsylvania, both parents born in Pennsylvania, living in household with wife Amelia (28), son Pikey(?) (2 months, born April 1880), and servant Margaret Oswood (17).⁽¹⁷⁾

J.O. McConaughy worked as a real estate, loan and insurance broker.

He died on 20 Sep 1914 in Rochelle, Illinois.⁽¹²⁾

Amelia Ann GARDHOUSE and James Orlando McCONAUGHY had the following children:
