 1. (62). Edward GARDHOUSE was born on 18 Apr 1822 in Brampton, Cumberland, England.⁽¹⁾ In about 1832 he moved with his family to Montréal, Québec with his parents and siblings.  They then moved to York, Upper Canada (Ontario), where they settled.

He appeared in the 1851 Ontario census in York, Ontario, as a farmer, born in England, religion Church of England, age on next birthday 30, living in a single-family, one story frame house; under "public buildings" was listed a flour mill.⁽²⁾

He moved in 1854 to Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois. He appeared in the 1860 US census in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, as age 38, no profession listed, with real estate worth $3,000 and personal estate worth $600, born in England, living in household with wife Prescilla (37) and children Amelia A. (8), Jane (5), John (2), and two servants, farm laborers. ⁽³⁾

He appeared in the 1870 US census in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, as age 48, farmer, with real estate worth $8,000 and personal estate worth $1,800, born in England, both parents of foreign birth, citizen of US, living in household with wife Priscilla (47) and children Amelia (18) and Jennett (15), and John B. Bemy, laborer.⁽⁴⁾ He became a citizen of the United States on 1 Nov 1878 in Ogle Co., Illinois. ⁽⁵⁾ He was elected as mayor in Rochelle, Illinois. He died on 23 Jun 1902 in Rochelle, Illinois. ⁽⁶⁾

He was married to Priscilla Elizabeth HUMBERSTONE (daughter of Thomas HUMBERSTONE and Ann (Nancy) HARRISON) on 8 Sep 1847 in York Twp., Ontario. ⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ They were married by George Carr, minister of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, in the presence of Edward Morgan and Hariett Wells.

(63.) Priscilla Elizabeth HUMBERSTONE was born on 14 Feb 1823 in Newton Brook, Ontario. She appeared on the 1851 Ontario census in York, Ontario, as Priscilla Gardhouse, born in England, age at next birthday 30, living with husband Edward. ⁽⁹⁾ She appeared on the 1860 US census in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, as Priscilla Gardhouse, age 37, b. in W. Canada, living in household with husband Edward and children Amelia A., Jane, and John.⁽¹⁰⁾

She appeared on the 1870 US census in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, as Priscilla Gardhouse, age 47, housekeeper, born in Canada, father of foreign birth, living with husband Edward and daughters Amelia and Jennett.⁽¹¹⁾

Priscilla Elizabeth HUMBERSTONE died on 28 Sep 1902 in Rochelle, Illinois.

Edward GARDHOUSE and Priscilla Elizabeth HUMBERSTONE had the following children:

3 ii. Jeannette GARDHOUSE was born on 29 Jan 1855 in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois. She died on 25 May 1940 in Rochelle, Illinois.
4 iii. John GARDHOUSE was born about 1858.  He appeared on the 1860 census in Lynnville, Ogle Co., Illinois, listed as aged 2.  He died before 1870.
