Thank you again for your site. In case you wanted that kind of refinement to what is already a great website, upperstjohn.com/1851/index.htm says Andover Parish census was completed in Oct 1851 and "probably took place over ... August and September". However William Merritt, who is marked as son in his parents' household in 1851 was married 4 July 1851 and therefore June or earlier may be more likely.
Thank you
Chip's reply : Thanks for the info Mori!
I'll update that page to add this. I appreciate it!

Chip, thx so much for all your hard work. I'm doing a genealogy on my mom's side who was born in Clair NB. Her name was Aldea Lang. I have so many names on my mom's side...Martin, Daigle. Cyr, Michaud... I just found your site and found my 3rd great grandfather: Chrysostome Martin in the 1820 Census. Very happy! thx again!

Wonderful site! Thank you for all of your research and hard work. Found lots of interesting information about my 4th great-grandfather, Pierre Mercure, who settled in Madawask Territory in around 1810 and raised his family. No where else is so much detail found about the area. Thank you again!!
Chip's reply : Sue, I'm so glad you've found the website useful!

This has been a fascinating read. Have used BAC-LAC census records for a lot of my research on my maternal side. Marriage record of my grandfather and grandmother says they came from St. Leonard NB. Census records for 1871 had little information, the 1861 census is not digitized as is 1851. Looked at New Brunswick government records and got little information. Found your site, had the 1851 transcribed census. Found my great grandmother's name along with her siblings, mother and father. The misspelling of French names makes the searches way difficult. The marriage record (in Maine) of my grandfather has his name and his father's last name spelled 4 different ways on that one record! You have done a remarkable job on this site. A very valuable resource. Thank you for the assistance you have given me.
Chip's reply : Glad you've found the site useful Richard!

Thanks to my new friend Paul Buck who turned me on to this part of my paternal ancestry of which I know so little except that some of my ancestors "migrated" South before or during that (?)1842 (?) drawing of the Canada-US border.
Also/aussi: y a-t-il place ici pour des messages rédigés en français? --Phil
Chip's reply : Non, en fait c'est un livre d'or bilingue, meme si la plupart des messages sont en anglais.

Recently learned that ancestors Patrick Powers and Anastasia Whelan immigrated to St. Leonard from Ireland in early 1830s. We didn't know of this St. John River valley connection before. Learning a lot! Thanks for the info here, tremendous resource!

I am a descendant of Charles MacPherson, who settled on the Saint John River in 1829, in what is now Saint Francis. I have gotten a lot of information from your site and really appreciate all of your hard work! I am trying to verify who Charles' parents are and exactly where he was born, and I would be grateful for any information you could give me. Thank you!

I love this site and I hope I can find specific information regarding the Saint John river being used as a navigable way for settlers back in the day; also if i could find accounts any pleasure trip taken by canoe down: length traveled; how manu days on the river; starting and ending point. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Than you SO much for sharing your research! Our families share similar paths, both the English and Acadian sides. I grew up in Skowhegan and am familiar with the Russell Road -- any relation? Anyway, thans again; this is very helpful in finding info on my Upper St. John Valley/Kamouraska roots.
Chip's reply : Jennifer, Sorry for the delay in posting this, I wasn't notified unfortunately. Anyway I'm very glad you are finding the website useful! As for Russell, I'm not sure, I haven't been able to pin down exactly which Russell family my ancestor Sam Russell is from.

Love that you did this! Lived in NB at one time and am an avid genealogist with no family in that area - just an interest . . . Thanks. - b

Just wanted to say thank you for the incredible amount of work you have done setting up and maintaining this site. It has been quite helpful in "connecting some dots" in my research. (Thibodeau and family connections)
Chip's reply : Thanks Dawn, glad the site has been useful for you!

My mom, Amanda Thibodeau m. Elden Morrow & her family lived in the "back settlement" of St. Francis, Maine.
David (Babe) Thibodeau & Elise Michaud were my grandparents.
Thank you for making this site available to the public. I just love what it has. I cannot believe how many of the family surnames were spelt out. Many i wouldn't recognize if you didn't have the correct spelling next to them. Quite interesting & i do understand how many couldn't read & write. But they tried!!! :o) Thank you, Carol Morrow
Chip's reply : Thanks Carol, glad you're finding the site useful! And yes that 1850 US census was a disaster in terms of name spellings...
