(1992) (His father Henri died in New Amsterdam before Michel's birth; his mother remarried to a Dutchman, Hudde, and returned to Holland where Michel was born.) He immigrated in 1654 to New Amsterdam (New York)?. (1993) He immigrated in 1659 to Acadia. (Acadia had been taken by the British in 1654; it would return to French hands in 1667.) (The ancestry of Michel Forest is very speculative; it is not at all certain that Michel is descended from the Flanders de Forests (see John DuLong web site on this subject. Beauregard in his Complément à Jetté, section on Acadia, citing a genealogy of the Forest family, proposes an alternative ascendance of Michel de Forest, namely that his name originally was Gereyt de Forest, from Flanders.
