(130) Listed as Joseph Findlen, age 8, born in Maine, living in household of parents (Patrick and Ann Findlen). He appeared on the census in 1870 in Fort Fairfield, Maine.(131) Listed as Joseph L. Findland, age 17, farmer, not in school that year, could read and write, born in Maine, living in household of his mother, Anne Findland (widow). He appeared on the census in 1880 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. (132) Listed as Joseph Finland, age 27, farmer, could read and write, born in Maine, living in household with wife Mary (22), and children Susan (2) and Edward (1). Also living in household was John McGlyn, 24, as a servant, occupation laborer on farm. He appeared on the census in 1900 in Fort Fairfield, Maine.(133) Listed as Joseph Findlen, born Nov. 1852 in Maine, age 47, married for 18 years, farmer, could read and write, owned home free of mortgage, on a farm (farm schedule 34); living in household with his wife Kate (42), and children Alice J (18), John J. (16), George P. (11), Chester A. (10), Grace M. (7), Mabel (4), Margaret H. (1), and Susie E. (22). He died on 1 Jul 1917 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. (41) He purchased land in the Abbot Farm, Fort Fairfield Maine. From "History of Fort Fairfield" by C.H. Ellis, in section of biographical sketches, under Joseph Findland: "Was born in this town in 1852. His father, Patrick Findland, came to Aroostook at an early day. Joseph was married in 1877, and in 1881 his wife died, leaving two children. One year later, therefore, there was a second marriage. There are seven children. The eldest two, a son and a daughter, are attending the advanced school in this village. Mr. Findland lives upon a farm four miles west of the village. He is a successful farmer, a reliable, influential and much respected citizen of this town." He was married to Mary J. HALE in 1876 in Fort Fairfield, Maine.

43. Mary J. HALE was born on 9 Apr 1858 in Maine.(134) She appeared on the census in 1860 in Eaton Grant (Caribou), Aroostook Co., Maine. (135) (Listed as Mary J. Hale, age 2, born in Maine, living in household of Denis and Maria Hale (her grandparents), two houses away from the household of her father Elisha, his wife Esther, and Mary's brother George.) She appeared on the census in 1870 in Lyndon, Aroostook, Maine. (136) (Listed as Mary J. Hale, age 13, at school, born in Maine, both parents of foreign birth, living in household of her father Elisha and stepmother Esther Hale.) She appeared on the census in 1880 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. (137) (Listed as Mary Finland, age 22, keeping house, born in Maine, father born in New Brunswick and mother in Ireland; living in household with husband Joseph and children Susan and Edward.) She died on 18 Oct 1880 in Fort Fairfield, Maine.(138) (Based on fact that in 1900 census Joseph Findlen was listed as having been married to his wife Kate for 18 years, though also in household listed as "daughter" was Susie E., 22 years old. So Mary must have died between 1880 census in June and Joseph's remarriage, which based on fact that oldest child was born in March 1882, according to 1900 census, must have been around June 1881. Also, in C.H. Ellis, "History of Fort Fairfield," biographical sketch of her husband states she died in 1881.) Children were:

child ii. Edward Lee FINDLEN was born on 17 Apr 1879 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. (139)(41) He appeared on the census in 1880 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. (140) Listed as Edward Finland, age 1, born in Maine, living in household of his parents Joseph and Mary Findland. He died on 22 Nov 1939.
