480. David McCONAUGHY was born in 1725 in County Derry, Ulster, Ireland. He immigrated about 1750 to Path Valley, Cumberland Co., Pa..(61) He was a farmer from 1750 to 1814.(589) In 1778 he was taxed on 54 acres and two horses; in 1779 and 1780 on 100 acres, 2 horses and 3 cattle; in 1781 and 1782 on 169 acres, 2 horses and 4 cattle. He was elected as member of the Pennsylvania Assembly before 1787.(590) He was one of four members appointed to draft a resolution on moving Pennsylvania's capital to Harrisburg in March 1787. He appeared on the census in 1790 in Fannett Twp., Franklin Co., Penn.. (In the census the name was spelled McConche.) He died in 1814 in Twolick Creek, Center Twp., Indiana Co., Penn.. He was buried in 1814 in Bethel Church, Aultman, Indiana Co., Penn.. The McConnaugheys were a family from Scotland that settled in northern Ireland in the 1600s. They remained in Ireland for several generations before coming to America. (The name was also spelled McCaunaghy, Conaghy, McConahy, McConehey, McConalrey, McCaunahay, McConochy, McConche.) He was married to Jane PLATT.

481. Jane PLATT was born in Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. Children were:

child ii. Elizabeth McCONAUGHY was born in County Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. She married John STEELE in Path Valley, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
child iii. David McCONAUGHY(61) was born before 1765 in County Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. He appeared on the census in 1810 in Beaver Co., Penn..(61) Listed as being 45 or older, as head of household which included also 1 male under 10, 1 female under 10, 2 females between 10 and 16, 2 females between 16 and 26, and 1 female older than 45. He served in the military in 1814. He served in Capt. Thomas Henry's Company, 138th Regiment. He died in 1814. He was serving in the Militia during the campaign for the defense of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, and died near the lake. After his death his widow was given 160 acres. He was a farmer. He married Margaret DAVIDSON of Fannettsburg, Path Valley, Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1790 (between March and October). David and Margaret had five children: Isabelle (born after 1790, lived to be 99; married Mr. Love of Mercer Co., Pennsylvania, had three children); Margaret (Peggy, married John McGill of Poland, Mahoning County, Ohio, had at least two children); Elizabeth (Betsy, married John Curry); a daughter whose name is unknown; and David Platt (born 14 Nov 1805 in Venango County, Pennsylvania, married Catherine Thomson 29 Sep 1830 at Mt. Jackson, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and had nine children. He died 9 Jan 1900 in Franklin Twp, Washington County, Iowa). After the death of her husband Margaret remarried.

child v. Mary McCONAUGHY was born in Path Valley, Cumberland Co., Pa.. She married Mathew STEELE in about 1798 in Path Valley. They had three children: Elizabeth (b. 24 Jun 1799, married John Carson, had 8 children); Janet (married James Williams, died before 1880); and Mary (married John Hays, died before 1880).
