7586. John COGSWELL was born in 1592 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England. He was baptized on 7 Apr 1592. He immigrated in 1635 to Massachusetts. ⁽⁴¹³⁶⁾ "[W]ith his wife and family of children, servants, and the most valuable of his possessions, he embarked at Bristol May 23, 1635 for New England in the ship 'Angel Gabriel.' But the vessel encountered a frightful gale on the New England coast, 'a sudden, dismal storm of wind and rain came as had never been known before by white man or Indian.' John and his family and servants escaped with their lives, but losing valuables to the amount of five thousand pounds sterling, and were washed ashore at Pemaquid, Maine. Making his way to Boston he employed Captain Gallup to transport his family to Ipswich, then an important settlement in the colony, where he was well received." He died on 29 Nov 1669 in Ipswich, Mass.. In England he was a manufacturer of woolen fabrics, inheriting the business and mills from his father. He was married to Elizabeth THOMPSON on 10 Sep 1615 in Westbury, Wiltshire, England. ⁽⁴¹³⁷⁾

7587. Elizabeth THOMPSON was born about 1594. She was baptized in 1604 in Westbury, Wiltshire, England. She immigrated in 1635 to Massachusetts. She died on 2 Jun 1676 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Children were:

ii. Mary COGSWELL was born about 1617 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England. She died in Boston, Mass.. She married Godfrey Armitage in 1649.
iii. William COGSWELL was born about Mar 1619 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England. He died on 15 Dec 1700. He married Susanna Hawkes in 1650.
iv. John COGSWELL was born about Jul 1622 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England. He was baptized on 25 Jul 1622 in Westbury parish, Wiltshire, England. He died on 27 Sep 1653.
v. Hannah COGSWELL was born about 1624. She married Deacon Cornelius Waldo in 1652.

vii. Edward COGSWELL was born in 1629 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England.
viii. Sarah COGSWELL was born about 1632. She died in 1692. She married Simon Tuttle in 1663.
ix. Elizabeth COGSWELL was born about 1635 in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England. She married Nathaniel Masterson 31 July 1657.
