Request for 200 acres, 7 July 1823

To his Honor Ward Chipman, Esquire, President and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick

The Memorial of Daniel Baldwin

Most humbly sheweth,

That Your Memorialist was born in the County of Charlotte in this Province, and is a British subject, that he resides in the County of Northumberland, and has always resided in his native Province: that he is a married man of the age of thirty two years and upwards, and never had any land as from The Crown, and humbly prays that the vacant lot in the rear of Number fifty-two on the south side of the Miramichi River, within the Parish of Chatham in the County of Northumberland, may be granted to him. Your Memorialist is of ability and it is his intention forthwith to cultivate and improve the said land according to The Royal Instructions, and has not directly or indirectly bargained or agreed for the sale or transfer thereof to any Person or Persons whatsoever.

And as in duty bound will ever pray.

Supplementary Petition of Daniel Baldwin and Jonathan Noble, 12th April 1827

To His Excellency Major General Sir Howard Douglas Baronet Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief of the Province of New Brunswick.

The Supplementary Petition of Daniel Baldwin and Jonathan Noble, both of the Parish of Chatham in the County of Northumberland, humbly sheweth

That the applications made by Your Petitioners some years ago for the lots in the rear of No.51 and 52 on the south side of Miramichi were complied with, but they have not until now been able to pay the fees upon the Grants of the said lots, upon which however, they have erected Houses and made improvements, to a considerable extent.

That Peter Shortall and John Dyggard lately applied for the same lots and have called upon your Petitioners to yield up the possession thereof, to them and their agents.

That having expended all their means on improving these lots, Your Petitioners and their families would be plunged in the deepest distress, if they were now compelled to quit them.

Your Petitions humbly pray that Your Excellency will be pleased to take the premise, into consideration and that notwithstanding them having been unable to pay the grand fees within the time limited, Your Excellency will be pleased to order Grants of the said lots to be made to Your Petitioners, who are now prepared to pay the Fees and as duty bound will ever pray.
