She was baptized 2 Aug 1840 in Carleton, Quebec.⁽¹²⁵⁾ She appeared on the 1851 New Brunswick census, living in Colebrook, Grand Falls, New Brunswick, in the household of her parents, Samuel and Ellen Russell, listed as aged 9 years, born in New Brunswick.⁽⁴⁾

She appeared on the 1860 US Census, living in Township 14, Range 11, listed as Susan Monroe, age 21, born in Canada, married within the previous year, living with John Monroe, age 50; also living in the household were Ann Russel (age 7, b. in N.B.); as well as a lumberman and three farm laborers, all born in Prince Edward Island.(p.533) She appeared on the 1870 US Census in Allagash (upper St. John River, above St. Francis), Maine, listed as Susan McClellan, age 36, born in New Brunswick, living with husband Finley and children Samuel (4), Susan (2), and Finley (3/12). ⁽³³⁾ She appeared on the 1880 US Census in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine, listed as Susan McLellan, age 40, living with husband Finley and children Elizabeth (11), Nancy (9), Donald (5), Finly (3), and Jerry (1). ⁽³⁴⁾ She appeared on the 1900 US Census in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine, listed as Susan McLennon, born Aug 1846 in English Canada, age 53, married 32 years, had given birth to 11 children, of whom 5 were still alive, parents both born in English Canada, came to US in 1855, could read, write and speak English, living in household with husband Finley and children Lizzie, Donald, Finley, Jessie and Richard.⁽³⁵⁾ She appeared on the 1910 US Census, in Fort Kent, listed as Susan McClelland, age 70, widow, married two times, married 34 years, had given birth to nine children, of whom five were still living, living in household with sons Donald (age 32), Finley (29), Richard (26) and daughters Elizabeth (42) and Jessie (25), and grandson Roy Gardiner (10). She died on 22 Dec 1918.⁽³⁶⁾ She was buried in the Fort Kent protestant cemetery.

Susan was married to John MONROE in 1859 or 1860. John MONROE was born about 1814 in Nova Scotia or in Scotland (the 1850 US census gives Nova Scotia, the 1860 census gives Scotland, as his birthplace). He appeared on the 1850 US Census in Township 17, Range 9, Aroostook Co., Maine, listed as John Monroe, age 36, laborer, born in Nova Scotia. He appeared on the 1860 US Census in Township 14, Range 11, Aroostook, Me., listed as a lumberman, age 50, born in Scotland, with real estate worth $3,000 and a personal estate worth $15,000, married within the previous year, living with wife Susan. He died between 1860 and 1864.

She was married to Finley McLELLAN about 1864.⁽³⁷⁾ Finley McLELLAN was born 17 Aug 1822 in New Brunswick. ⁽³⁸⁾ He appeared on the census in 1870 in Allagash (upper St. John River, above St. Francis), Maine.⁽³⁹⁾ Listed as Finley McLellan, age 58, farmer, born in New Brunswick, real estate worth $900, living in "unincorporated plantation on upper St. John above St. Francis," in household with wife Susan (36) and children Samuel (4), Susan (2), and Finley (3/12). He appeared on the census in 1880 in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine.⁽⁴⁰⁾ Listed as Finley McLellan, age 58, farmer, born in New Brunswick, living in household with wife Susan (40), and children Elizabeth (11), Nancy (9), Donald (5), Finly (3), and Jerry (1) He appeared on the census in 1900 in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine.⁽⁴¹⁾ Listed as Finley McLennon, born Aug 1822 in English Canada, age 77, married for 32 years, both parents born in English Canada, immigrated into US in 1860, not naturalized, farmer, could read, write and speak English, owned home (farm) free of mortgage, farm schedule 129, living with wife Susan and children Lizzie, Donald, Finley, Jessie and Richard. He died on 22 Dec 1902 (date listed on tombstone at Bolton Point Cemetery, Allagash, Maine) He was a farmer. He was buried in Bolton Point cemetery, Allagash, Maine. (Based on 1900 census, listing 5 children of Finley and Susan, and noting that Susan had given birth to 11 children of whom only 5 were alive in 1900; also, Samuel was not listed in 1880 census.)

Elizabeth Helene (Lal) McLELLAN was born 16 Apr 1869 in St. Hilaire, Victoria Co., New Brusnwick. ^{(46)(47) (48)} (Maynard Jalbert gives birth date as 8 Dec 1869, but although she does show up on 1880 census as 11, she is not listed in 1870 census (unless she is the same person as Susan, whose age is given as 2).) She was baptized 17 Apr 1869 at St. Hilaire Church, St. Hilaire, New Brunswick.⁽¹²⁵⁾ She appeared on the census in 1900 in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine.⁽⁴⁹⁾ Listed as Lizzie McLennon, born Apr 1871 in Maine, age 29, single, parents born in English Canada, could read, write and speak English, living in household of parents Finley and Susan. He died between Jun 1870 and 1880. (Finley with this age not listed in 1880; also 1900 census notes that mother Susan gave birth to 11 children of whom only 5 survived to 1900).

He was baptized 31 July 1886 in Fort Kent, Maine.⁽¹²⁵⁾ He appeared on the census in 1900 in Township 15, Range 11, Aroostook, Maine.⁽⁵²⁾ Listed as Finley McLennon, born Jun 1878 in Maine, age 23, unemployed one month, occupation Flanster(sp?), could read and speak English, could not write, living with parents Finley and Susan.
