Translation of occupations listed in Ste Luce parish records

 

From the first entries of the Ste Luce parish records in 1843 up until he left the parish in 1860, Father Henri Dionne included information on the occupation of the fathers of people being baptized or married. In the database those occupations are given in the original French. Below is a translation of the occupations included in the parish records.

 

Cordonnier = cobbler

Cultivateur = farmer (working on own farm)

Forgeron = blacksmith

Instituteur = teacher

Journalier = day laborer (working on someone else's farm)

Marchand = merchant, store owner

Menuisier = carpenter

Meunier = miller

Sculpteur = wood carver

Sergent = sargeant (soldier)

Soldat = soldier
