Ken,
If they were married at St. Basile, I wonder why the register doesn't describe it as "legitimate marriage"? Any other info on this marriage?
Thanks.

RE: Ste Luce
John, The Ste Luce registry compiled by Guimond, from which the popup info was taken, includes info on parents of people married at Ste Luce, their parish of marriage and the date, if they themselves were not married at Ste Luce. In this case, Isaac Yarrington and Catherine Nadeau are listed as poss...

Joseph Gagnon & Marie Tardif
Query from a visitor: My great, great grandfather was Joseph Gagnon who married Marie Exibert Mary Bouchard on 8/13/1900. His parents were Joseph Hippolyte Gagnon and Marie Tardif who married 8/22/1876. That's pretty much all I know at this point, I have been diligently searching, to no avail for mo...

Edouard Ouellet's second wife was Pauline Fraser
The Ste-Agathe marriage register confirms that Edouard who married Pauline Fraser is the same one who had married Delina Saucier. The marriage entry for Edouard Ouellet and Pauline Fraser, 1 Jun 1900, notes that Edouard's first wife was Delina Saucier. So this is your mom's grandfather. I'm not sure...

Stover Rines
Roger,
Thanks for stopping by.
I am assuming you've already found my small page on Stover Rines, at http://www.upperstjohn.com/people/rines.htm
If you've got any other info on his service at the Fort Kent blockhouse I'd love hearing about it.
Thanks!
Chip

When and why did Nyzaire St.Jean move?
Why did Nyzaire move from Île-Verte to northern Maine? What was the exact date of his move? The only information I have on this is the fact that he married Christine Ouellette on 8 July 1861 in Frenchville. In 1860 she was living with her family in Twp.16, R.12., on the St.John River above the St.Fr...

Ste-Luce church, Frenchville, records
I've got the microfilm of these records and am going to try to set up an index (the first decade has a name index at the end of each year, I guess Father Dionne had a lot of extra time around the new year... :) Maybe I'll put the index on line, but not sure when it'll happen. If any questions about ...

Re: Why was St. Francis River chosen as border?
The border that we see now is in large part the result of a decision made by the King of the Netherlands in 1831. he'd been chosen to arbitrate the border dispute by the US and Britain. He found it impossible to set a border the way it was described in the 1783 peace treaty. So he set a border the s...

Acadians living near Fredericton in 1783
In 1783 the British government undertook a census of settlers on the lower St.John River, in preparation for resettling Loyalists in the province of Nova Scotia (soon to become New Brunswick). In June 1783 Maj. Guilford Studholm compiled this list of settlers in what has come to be known as the &quo...
