Welcome!
Welcome all! I'm the webmaster of the upperstjohn.com website. All of my family lines have come through the Upper St.John River valley, and they include Acadiens, Canadiens, Irish, English, Scottish and, way way back, some Mikmaq . Here's an explanation of how I came to set up the website . The idea...

Where is Samuel Russell from? Who were his parents?
Samuel Russell is one of the big question marks in my family history. I have not yet been able to identify with certainty Samuel Russell's parents. My cousin Maynard Jalbert has spent long hours looking into this question too. Recently however, I have come across a couple of pieces of information th...

Who were Ellen Baldwin's parents?
I don't have any solid information on Ellen's parents or background. It is however possible that she is the [strike]daughter[/strike] sister of Daniel BALDWIN and his wife Ann, listed in the 1851 New Brunswick Census in Chatham, Northumberland County. This is the only family named Baldwin in that ar...

Why did they move?
Prospère moved in the summer of 1831 from Kamouraska to Frenchville. We know that his sister Félicité and her husband Pierre Landry had moved a couple of years earlier.
Why did Prospère decide to join them? Why did they leave Kamouraska to move to the Madawaska settlement area?

The "French Settlement"
In the 1851 census, within the parish of Andover, is a place called the "French Settlement". Go here for the transcription.
Does anyone know where exactly this settlement was? It seems to be within the current parish of St.André but I'm not sure.

Prospère or Prisque?
In the baptismal records, the son of Michel Gagnon and Félicité Pelletier, baptized on 17 Sep 1790 in Ste-Anne de la Pocatière, Québec is listed as Prisque Gagnon . Everything that I've seen, in terms of records, says that this Prisque is indeed Prospère. But I've seen no specific actual evidence th...

Who are Amable Ouellette's parents?
One of my brick walls has been determining Amable's parents. This is in part because no marriage information has been found for Amable and Esther. Since Esther seems to be from Cacouna, it seems reasonable to assume that Amable too is from that general region around Kamouraska. In US censuses he is ...

Joseph St.Pierre & Sophie Pelletier
I received an email query on this couple.
Is this Joseph the son of Jos.St.Pierre and Clementine Jalbert?
What is the exact date of their marriage? Who are Sophie's parents?
