At this point Deane and Kavanagh switch over to the South Bank, and stay there until the line that marks the point on the St.John River where the international border was set (near present-day Hamlin). They then proceeded on August 4th to continue their survey of the North bank, going west back toward Justin D'Aigle's place.

The information on the North Bank is much sketchier than what they gathered on the South Bank. This was in part due to the ruling of the arbitrator, announced during their trip, that the St.John River should be the border. Although the US ended up rejecting that position (the border was not finally settled until 1842), Deane and Kavanagh clearly were affected by the ruling, and the British authorities as well as the population on the North Bank were much less cooperative.
