Thomas Gagnon to Montréal

The brother of my great-great grandfather was Thomas Gagnon, son of Prospère Gagnon. He was born in Kamouraska 25 Jun 1823.

He married Marcelline Morin at Ste Luce on 11 Sep 1849.

Between 1850 and 1854 they had three children: Marie Marcelline, Michel, and Sophie. But they disappear from the records after 1854.

I stumbled across this family living in Montreal at the time of the 1881 census. Subsequent census info indicates they had moved to Montreal by abt 1857. In 1881 and onwards they lived in St. Mary's Ward in the city of Montreal, and it's likely they lived there even earlier.

If anyone has any information on how this family came to move to Montréal, or on their life in that city -- including access to the 1861 and 1871 censuses of St.Mary Ward in Montreal, I'd be very interested in hearing from you!

Thanks!
