Samuel Humberstone and Rosa Zinmeister


7. Samuel HUMBERSTONE was born on 13 May 1809 in York Twp., Ontario. He was a steamboat owner and commander from 1836. He was the owner and commander of several steamboats, and had experience on the western rivers and Lake Ontario. He volunteered for the Union Naval service during the US Civil War and served as first class pilot. He appeared on the census in 1860 in Fulton City, Illinois. (21) (Listed as age 50, pilot on steam boat, no entries under value of real and personal estate, born in Canada W., living in household with Rose (33), Louis (9, b. in Penn.), Kate (7, b. in Penn.), Oscar (5, b. in Penn.), and Clayton (3, b. in Ill.).) He died on 5 Apr 1880 in Rochelle, Illinois. He died of a stroke while visiting his sister Priscilla.

He was married to Rosa ZINMEISTER on 24 Jul 1847 in Pittsburgh, Penn.. They were married by an itinerant Methodist minister named Johnson. Rosa ZINMEISTER was born about 1827 in New York.(22) Samuel HUMBERSTONE and Rosa ZINMEISTER had the following children:
