This family (Nazaire) seems to be appearing in the St Bruno parish census of 1872, spelled Devot. It's transcribed on this website. Go here: http://upperstjohn.com/1872/stbruno15.htm#549 and then down to line 30, continuing onto the next page. You can see that they had been married 20 years, and tha...

Re: The Settlement of the St John River Valley
Thanks, great find! Here is a chapter in a book about settlement in the St. John River valley. I scanned it quickly and it seems to be very general history without much mention of any names of individuals. Still there may be some info of value in it. http://archive.org/stream/cihm_00811#page/169/mod...

1829 list of Madawaska "sufferers" / bad harvest
In the late 1820s the Madawaska Settlement suffered poor harvests. As a result, by the summer of 1829 parts of the population were facing starvation. The New Brunswick provincial government sent Thomas Baillie, Surveyor General, to the settlement where he found a dire situation. He had a list drawn ...

Amable's parents discovered!
The parentage of Amable Ouellet, my g-g-g grandfather, has long been a mystery. Because he and his wife Esther Gardner were married in a Protestant church, which usually did not include the names of the parents of the bride and groom in marriage records, we don't have the usual source of parentage f...

Some of the mystery of David Gardner is resolved.
He is from Scotland, served in the British military in different places. He was sent to Quebec with a military regiment, and ended up settling there.
For all the details go to my page on David Gardner and his wife Elizabeth Forrester.

Ken Roy mentioned he thought some of the births in the St. Luce area berore 1843 were registered in St Basile. I have found an example. Marie Galenton (Yarrington), daughter of Isaac Galenton (Yarrington) and Catherine Nadeau is in the St Basile register. It is signed by H. Dionne. In Marie/Mary's ...

Ebenezer Greeley (1837 census) letter from Fredericton jail
Larry Glatz has located a letter written by Greeley from the Fredericton jail where he was being held in June 1837, after being arrested by New Brunswick authorities for taking the census of the Madawaska settlement for the state of Maine. Larry's transcription of the letter is here: Letter from Ebe...
