"He appeared on the 1900 US census in Frenchville, Maine, as Philippe Gagnon, born May 1890 in Maine, age 10, at school, could not read, write or speak English, living in household of parents Henri and (stepmother) Denise (128).
On his WWI draft registration card, dated 5 Jun 1917, he lists himself as a self-employed farmer, married with three children. He is described as having blue eyes and dark brown hair, and no disabilities. [Registration Card, no.32 (stamped 18-2-2.A), Frenchville, Maine, June 5, 1917].
He appeared on the 1920 US census in Frenchville, as Philip Gagnon, age 29, owned his home free of mortgage, could read and write, was a farmer on a general farm, and an employer. (Reference to farm schedule no.122.) He was living in household with wife Marie (26), and children Wilfred (6), Henri (5), Cecile (3), Lewis (2), and Lorenzo (7 months).(129)
He appeared in the 1930 US census in Frenchville, as Phillip H. Gagnon, age 39, married at age 22, owned his home, was living on a farm, could read and write, born in Maine, both parents born in Maine,could speak English, working as a farmer (p.235, sheet b) (for an image of that census return see below).
He worked as a farmer; the farm was located on Fourth Settlement Road in Upper Frenchville. The family lived on the farm until about 1940 when they moved into a house on the main road in Upper Frenchville. He was also known as Philip H. Gagnon; the "H" standing for "Henri," his father's name. He died on 25 Sep 1965 in Caribou, Maine, and was buried on 29 Sep 1965 in Ste-Luce cemetery, Frenchville, Maine.
Philip GAGNON was married to Marie TARDIF (daughter of Simon TARDIF and Victoria CHAMBERLAND) on 7 Jan 1913 in St. Agatha, Maine.
(9.) Marie TARDIF was born on 30 June 1893 in St. Agatha, Maine. She was baptized on 30 June 1893 in Ste-Luce Church, Frenchville, Maine. Her godparents were Antoine Tardif and Marianne Ouellette; she was baptized by Fr. Charles Swerron. She was a school teacher from 1910 to 1913 in St. Agatha, Maine. She appeared on the 1920 US census in Frenchville, Maine, as Marie Gagnon, age 26, could read and write, living in household with husband Philip Gagnon and children Wilfred, Henri, Cecile, Lewis, and Lorenzo.(130) She appeared on the 1930 US census as Marie Gagnon, age 36, married at age 19, could read and write, born in Maine as were both her parents, could speak English (for image of this census page see below). She died on 17 Oct 1950 in Frenchville, Maine. She was buried on 20 Oct 1950 in Ste-Luce cemetery, Frenchville, Maine. Wilfred Philip GAGNON and Marie TARDIF had the following children: 119 i. He was baptized on 17 Oct 1913 in Ste-Luce church, Frenchville, Maine.(32) Godparents were Simon Tardif and Victoria Chamberlain, maternal grandparents.
