1860 US Census, Aroostook County, Maine

Grand Isle Plantation

Now Grand Isle

The 1860 Census of Grand Isle Plantation covers 14 pages, pp.402-415, in the 1860 US Census. I have broken this down into 7 separate files, listed below. In the 1850 US census, what is surveyed in 1860 as Grand Isle Plantation were included in both Van Buren Plantation and Madawaska Plantation (the dividing line seems to be around p.407.)

The Census taker wrote "Grant Isle" rather than Grand Isle. In the census transcriptions it is thus written as Grant rather than Grand.

In addition to the annotations--information that appears in popup boxes for some individuals--you should also check out the page on this website on French names in the 1860 US Census.

You can also check out the Name Index to the 1860 US Census of Grand Isle Plantation (covering only that township), as well as the Name Index to the 1860 US Census of the Upper St.John River Valley communities, which covers all 1860 transcriptions on this website.
