Because some names as transcribed are quite different from
the correct spelling, I have included both versions in the online index. Names that appear like this are
corrected versions of the names that appear in the census. The form that appears
in the transcription itself follows, and appears like this. For example: | Langlois, Délina, asEnglish, Delina | This
person appears in the transcription itself as Delina English; the actual name
of the person is Délina Langlois.
You can search the name index by Page number; by Last
Name; or for certain towns, by Specific Township
You can also search using the new online searchable database By Last name: Clicking on a name will bring you to the top of the page on which that
name appears. Scroll down to find the individual.
This index is in the format LastName, Firstname. Spellings are
exactly as written in the census. For information on misspelled French names,
make sure you check out the page on French names
in the 1860 census!
By Page number: There are 146 separate pages of the 1860 Census of Aroostook
County transcribed on this site which you may view by page number
if you wish.
Note: Some census pages include two townships; in these cases,
a page number appears twice in the list below.
